Everton strikers will strike again – honest!

EVERTON 1 (Beckford 90+4) – BOLTON WANDERERS 1 (Klasnic 79) A week is a long time in politics and ten minutes is a long time in a football match. With about five minutes of normal time to go against Bolton, Everton, already a goal down, became Everton a man down as well, after Marouane Fellaini, having a good game, was sent of for a foolish foul on Paul Robinson. Fast forward to the few seconds added by Phil Dowd to the already elapsed three minutes of added time; Leighton Baines won a fierce contest with Lee on the touchline and managed to prod the ball to Jermaine Beckford loitering...

Potters cracked by goal hungry Yakubu

EVERTON 1 (Yakubu 63) – STOKE CITY 0. One thing we can safely say for this game, without fear of criticism, is that it lived down to expectations: Stoke were going to string four players built like rugby prop-forwards across their back four – tick; they came to defend, in depth, with no attacking ambitions whatsoever, so long as the scores remained even – tick; it would require patience and maybe a touch of luck to break them down – tick; it would not be pretty – tick. Thankfully, the only prediction that we got wrong was that we didn’t have to watch Rory Delap trundle up the touchline,...

West Ham Chairman Sullivan in early bid for “Moron of the Year” Award

West Ham Chairman David Sullivan came out yesterday and gave his opinion on Yakubu’s market price. Sullivan said: “Everything has a price. You want to get Yakubu for £1-2 million and they are quoting £8 million and that is far too much. “They have to be more realistic. If they said £1-2m we might go back. We bid more at the start of the summer because we had more flexibility but, at this moment in time, having spent some of our money on other players we want him for £1-2m.” With gutter rag The S*n claiming that West Ham want £20million from Liverpool for Carlton Cole, are we to...

Entire Everton Squad To Leave

June 18, 2010

At least that’s what the press would have us believe. I find it ridiculous that journos on TV and in newspapers are constantly linking Everton players with a move away from the club, it’s as if their shallow paddling pool minds can’t fathom good players playing for Everton. The rote line is similar for every player, and it goes something like this: “Everton are a good club, but for X to really get success he has to move on.” This summer, the transfer tales have reached Pinocchio levels, with a huge slice of our squad as well as our manager being linked away. If all these players are good enough for a...

'New' Everton on steep learning curve

BIRMINGHAM CITY 2 (Jerome 25, Gardner 50) – EVERTON 2 (Anichebe 18, Yakubu 21) That Everton led by two goals to nil after 21 minutes and yet failed to secure all three points will mean that the team coach was very quiet on its way back up the M6 on Saturday evening. Well taken goals by Victor Anichebe and Yakubu, the second set up by man of the match Steven Pienaar, should have provided the platform for a victory, but a soft goal by Jerome got Birmingham back into contention before half-time and then Gardner evened things up shortly after the break. We like this new, attack-minded, team line-up...

Landon Donovan; goodbye or au revoir?

Everton travel to Birmingham in confident mood buoyed by their five goal romp against Hull. David Moyes surprised a few with his team selection for that game which was attacking and progressive and utilized the strengths of his burgeoning squad to maximum effect. Playing Johnny Heitinga just in front of the back four at a stroke strengthened the defensive spine of the team and improved distribution while also allowing Mikel Arteta to play further forward in a role which uses his skills to maximum effect. With Anichebe and Yakubu providing plenty of muscle up front and goals a plenty this 4-1-3-2 formation was an instant hit. We have, in...
