When news trickled through yesterday via various outlets including The Guardian that Royston Drenthe has been told to stay away from Everton by David Moyes, none of us can have been too surprised. Rumour and hearsay have followed Drenthe around Merseyside like ravenous paparazzi, but finally some of the facts are leaking out...

Reports tell of a crowd bursting at the seams with excitement as the teams took to the field, almost as if they knew what was coming. By half time, Everton were 2-1 up, and after 90 minutes the scores were level at 3-3 – somehow Everton won it 6-4....

ESPN reported yesterday that Dan Gosling was ready to join Newcastle United for free. It looks like he’ll be getting £25,000 a week, but the article also mentions that Everton will appeal the move and look to recoup something. If we get anywhere near the £4 million we are apparently appealing for – it will come in very handy for both us and Plymouth Argyle – who are entitled to any proceeds of a Gosling transfer. Again, I’m sad to see him go, and a little angry too.
Now is the summer of our discontent. Summer is an atrocious time to be an Evertonian. Nails are bitten to the quick, nights are sleepless, and the fevered clamour amongst the gutter press for a full-scale Everton exodus reaches unbearable levels. With Pienaar still flirting with our offer, Arteta a possibility to leave, and Johnny Heitinga sending a volley of mixed messages our way we could be forgiven for forgetting about Dan Gosling. If you’d have asked me my opinion of Gosling last week I would have told you that he is a solid young player, and a promising prospect for the future. All that is now in tatters....
A bad 45 minutes against Birmingham does not destroy a season, nor does it indicate “attitude problems” as some are saying. Where were these supposed problems during the come-back against Spurs, the draw at Arsenal and the victory over City. The game against Sunderland on Wednesday evening probably can’t come soon enough for the Everton team who will be champing at the bit to get out there and show that the Birmingham result was a one-off. Since Saturday Swiss international Philippe Senderos has joined on loan from the Gunners to bolster our central defensive options and Mikel Arteta and Victor Anichebe have apparently played in a ‘behind closed doors’...
