Piers Morgan: Not Football’s Antichrist

Yesterday Piers Morgan appeared on Fox as part of the studio panel talking about the Arsenal – Man Utd game, this was the first time a Premier League match had appeared live on Fox. Despite moaning to the contrary, Piers Morgan is not the worst pundit to ever talk about the beautiful game on this side of the Atlantic, not by a long stretch. I’ve lived in the US for seven years now and I have seen football broadcasting progress forward rapidly but also regress shockingly on Fox’s subscripion football channel. I’ve heard our ‘keeper called Nigel “Marteeen”. I’ve heard their midfielder called Steven “Gerrard” with a hard G....

60 Games That Shook Goodison: #9.When Rooney was Blue

Everton 2-1 Arsenal. 19th October 2002. Arsenal have a special relationship with Everton. When Alan Ball was sold he moved to Highbury. Dixie scored his 60th against them, and Wayne Rooney bagged his first against a seemingly invincible Arsenal. Rooney came on with only the embers of the game remaining and was already furious for not playing from the start. It didn’t take him long to turn the game; sending a long range shot that looped over Seaman’s head like a vandal’s brick. After the goal the young Scouser was bouncing around like a videogame character somehow transplanted into a world of professional footballers. His feet did what legions...

Entire Everton Squad To Leave

June 18, 2010
By

At least that’s what the press would have us believe. I find it ridiculous that journos on TV and in newspapers are constantly linking Everton players with a move away from the club, it’s as if their shallow paddling pool minds can’t fathom good players playing for Everton. The rote line is similar for every player, and it goes something like this: “Everton are a good club, but for X to really get success he has to move on.” This summer, the transfer tales have reached Pinocchio levels, with a huge slice of our squad as well as our manager being linked away. If all these players are good enough for a...

Why Arteta will not be moving to Arsenal.

The Premier League’s ecosystem took a big hit yesterday with news that Cesc Fabregas will be leaving Arsenal and heading back to Barcelona. The first I heard of this was when Oliver Kay gave his opinion on Twitter saying: “If, as G Balague implies, Barca feel Arsenal “owe” them after using legal loophole to sign Cesc in 2003, they’re misguided”The press will have us believe that Cesc running off into the arms of Pep Guardiola and his chums at Barca will mean that Arsene Wenger will turn to Mikel Arteta as a replacement. Don’t believe everything you read in the press. Most Gooners I have spoken to since the news...

THE TOFFEEMONGER: Arsene! Keep your greasy paws off our Belgian

THE TOFFEEMONGER: Arsene! Keep your greasy paws off our Belgian

THE TOFFEEMONGER -February 16th 2010 A quick daily scan sampling the media’s transfer tripe. Today’s main transfer rumour is regarding feral fuzzball Marouane Fellaini. Apparently Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is having a hearty sniff around the Belgian, and he likes what he smells.  The Guardian is leading the charge with the Fellaini tripe here , and we’re hoping that’s exactly what it is. His contract isn’t running out, he seems happy, Arsenal are known to hate splurging big money (and that’s exactly what they’d have to do to bag Fellaini)… However, the Belgian’s dad seems to like hawking his son around (not in Fabregas Sr’s league yet but give...

Everton stun Gunners

ARSENAL 2 (Denilson 27, Rosicky 90+1)  -  EVERTON 2 (Osman 11, Pienaar 80) Played in a freezing wind and swirling snow this was by some distance Everton’s best performance of the season, it will give the squad a massive shot of that most precious of sporting commodities, confidence. As predicted Landon Donovan made his debut in a blue shirt; playing in a wide-right midfield position he was a revelation, until substituted on 67 minutes, cramped and exhausted by the pace of the world‘s premier league. He tackled, harried, worked back to assist Phil Neville, and carried a considerable offensive threat with pace and intelligence. Everton deserved all three points,...
