Donovan departure + crocked Coleman = Barkley return?

EVERTON 2 (Pienaar 5, Stracqualursi 71) – CHELSEA 0 WITH the twin peaks of Chelsea and Manchester City conquered 3-0 on aggregate the burning question is; can this form be carried forward into the FA Cup, can Championship Blackpool be similarly swept aside and a quarter-final place secured? If Everton approach that encounter with the same hunger and cold-eyed determination shown in their last two home games there can only be one winner. This new-found confidence and momentum must be sustained and channelled into ensuring that meaningful progress is made in the only competition that remains open to the Toffees this season. Up until two weeks ago Leighton Baines was playing...

Nothing Tastes as Good as Skint Feels

Everton 2 (Pienaar 5, Stracqualursi 71) Chelsea 0 THE mantra amongst weight obsessed celebs is “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” – ours should be similar. No league victory for either Man City or Chelsea will come close to matching the full blooded joy of our pair of empty wallet wins. It took just five minutes for Everton to take the lead against the King’s Road dilettantes – Pienaar running on to a ball in the box and lashing into the roof of the net. My mind instantly turned to Saha’s goal seconds after the start of the FA Cup final against Chelsea. It came too early, and I...

Return of gold-plated Pienaar to lift Goodison

After seeing off one billionaire-funded club in Manchester City, another follows hard on their heels. Everton tend to do well against Chelsea, especially at Goodison, where the Londoners have lost on their last two league visits. Andre Villas-Boas has spent the week telling everyone that they will not underestimate the Toffees – whether that has the desired effect remains to be seen. Tim Cahill is expected to shake off a foot injury, while Nikica Jelavic may make his Goodison Park debut and Steven Pienaar will certainly make his second-coming. Against Wigan he was Everton’s best performer and his return has lifted the morale of players and fans alike. Phil...

“Desert Island Kicks” is a pale imitation of the legendary “Desert Island Discs”. I’m looking to nab answers from footie fans from all corners of the globe and all walks of life. You’re stranded on a desert island, what footballing memories would you take with you? I want you to pick a game, shirt, goal, player and piece of turf from a stadium to take with you to a desert island, oh and you’re allowed one luxury too. Next up is Fernando Duarte, Brazilian journalist and freelance writer (as well as occasional contributor to the Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast)… GAME: I’d do a compilation. The first half of Flamengo...

On taking a sabbatical from twitter or why one Evertonian has had enough

On taking a sabbatical from twitter or why one Evertonian has had enough

WELCOME TO TWITTER: Where I’m just tired of arguing with morons who don’t have a clue about anything and are wrapped up in their own JFK style conspiracy theories where the military industrial complex is trying to rip the heart out of Everton. Where Bill Kenwright is an insidious General Secretary chuckling to himself as he binds yet more naive billionaires into a web of confidentiality agreements. Or maybe Kenwright is a Sith Lord and Moyes is his trainee Darth Vader. Where David Moyes is overrated, over cautious, clueless and living off his past. Where Everton are an attractive investment, underperforming on a net budget of less than nothing....

Fan funded Trust Everton formed to acquire Finch Farm

A group of Everton fans have used their initiative to set up a vehicle called Trust Everton which they want to use to buy the club’s Finch Farm training complex funded by supporter subscriptions and donations. The facility is owned by Essex-based Hudson Capital Properties, to whom the club currently pay £1.1m a year in rent. In October 2011, Hudson Capital Properties put Finch Farm up for sale for £15.3m. Everton have an option to buy it in July for a set fee of around £16.5m and Trust Everton plan to buy the training complex and perhaps help fund a new stadium. The idea, which has the backing of shadow...
