TEN YEARS OF MOYES: He’s not the Moyesiah

…But he isn’t a “very naughty boy” either. In celebration of Moyes’ ten years in charge of Everton, we’re dipping into the Dixie’s 60 archives to find some of our favourite moments. This post was originally published by me on December 11, 2010. The truth about Moyes – as always – is somewhere between the two extremes. Sorry to disappoint. You can stop drooling over the media hagiography of Saint Moyes – he isn’t a tactical genius, he has spent large amounts on some big failures (Beattie, Bilyadetinov), and we’ve consistenly started our seasons VERY slowly… At the other end of the scale, the rabid chest-beating Moyes bashers can...

In celebration of Moyes’ ten years in charge of Everton, we’re dipping into the Dixie’s 60 archives to find some of our favourite moments. This post was originally published by me on June 20, 2007. The story goes that when someone presented U.S. President Franklin D Roosevelt with the disgraceful abominations of his ally, the Nicaraguan dictator Somoza, he reportedly said: “He may be a sonofab*tch, but he’s our sonofab*tch.” Since David Moyes took over at Everton he has been hunting for our own “sonofab*tch”. Bids have been tabled for Blackburn’s Robbie Savage, Newcastle’s Emre, and more recently then-Manchester City’s Joey Barton — three villains of the Premiership pantomime....

Pele was woeful, Alex Young was worse, and Moyes will get Everton relegated Fan 1: What about last season? Fan 2: What about it? Fan 1: They were rubbish. They were f***ing rubbish. Fan 2: They weren’t that bad. Fan 1: They were f***ing rubbish last year. And they were f***ing rubbish the year before. And I don’t care if they are top of the League, they’ll be f***ing rubbish this year, too. And...

TEN YEARS OF MOYES: Murky Memories

In celebration of Moyes’ ten years in charge of Everton, we’re dipping into the Dixie’s 60 archives to find some of our favourite moments. This post was originally published by me on my old blog on February 23, 2007. As we become accustomed to our managers, like a pair of worn in football boots, the doubts slowly start creeping in. In the end a manager is defined by a few , often apocryphal, snapshots from the past. Alf Ramsey – ’66 and the wingless wonders, not joining in for the celebrations; Graham Taylor – “Do I not like that”, uttered just before England conceded a goal to the Poles.Elton’s...

TEN YEARS OF MOYES: When Rooney was Blue

In celebration of Moyes’ ten years in charge of Everton, we’re dipping into the Dixie’s 60 archives to find some of our favourite moments. This post was originally published by me on June 7, 2011. Everton 2-1 Arsenal. 19th October 2002. Arsenal have a special relationship with Everton. When Alan Ball was sold he moved to Highbury. Dixie scored his 60th against them, and Wayne Rooney bagged his first against a seemingly invincible Arsenal. Rooney came on with only the embers of the game remaining and was already furious for not playing from the start. It didn’t take him long to turn the game; sending a long range shot...

TEN YEARS OF MOYES: The Day Everton Lost Victor Anichebe

In celebration of Moyes’ ten years in charge of Everton, we’re dipping into the Dixie’s 60 archives to find some of our favourite moments. This post was originally published by me on Dec 14, 2010. It’s amazing what happens when things are taken out of context The excruciating thing is that they both did exactly the same strange neck dance. Their actions before were different, the games themselves were utterly different, but the spasmodic neck move was the same. In both cases it was a dance borne from emotion shaved to the bone, they both looked like fish, slapping about on the deck, writhing for oxygen. For a split...

TOFFEES 2 – LA VIOLA 0 Aggregate score 2-2 Tie decided on penalties: Everton 2 – Fiorentina 4   Sport has been defined as “a pleasant pastime; amusement; diversion” and professional sport clearly extends into the entertainment industry. TEN YEARS OF MOYES: A Gift from Joseph Yobo

In celebration of Moyes’ ten years in charge of Everton, we’re dipping into the Dixie’s 60 archives to find some of our favourite moments. This post was originally published by me on Feb 21, 2011 . August 13 2005, Everton 0-2 Manchester United Arsenal were the team that Dixie Dean scored his final hattrick against in his 60 goal season. Decades later, they also came up against Wayne Rooney. He became a household name by chucking a football shaped fist through televisions and into living rooms up and down the country. Clive Tyldesley may have sealed the deal by whinnying “Remember the name!…” after Rooney scored his first, but...
