- When we didn’t play our goalkeeper in a US friendly they said they wouldn’t have played us if they had known he wasn’t playing. He is a star in the States.
- Our left back has been linked with Liverpool and Man City among others. He has a left foot last seen on Kevin Sheedy, is a potent attacker, a constant source of lip-smackingly delicious crosses, and can take gorgeous free kicks to boot. He has caught the eye of England coach Fabio Capello. He’s just 26.
- Our centre half is hard in the tackle, and positionally excellent. Another England international, Arsene Wenger would have him at Arsenal if he could prise him from Everton’s grip. Word is that our centre half is happy at Everton, and we’re lucky to have him.
- Our right back – a 34 year old with 59 England caps, is so brimming with experience and class that even at his advanced age, Champions League chasing Tottenham were sniffing around him last winter.
- The Telegraph’s sage Henry Winter says our young midfielder, who plays like a young dynamic Steven Gerrard, is the player to watch this season.
- Another one of our midfield foals, a player who always seems to have time on the ball, like a young unflappable Rio Ferdinand, is being monitored by Man Utd and Tottenham.
- Our big haired Belgian, lanky, fierce and omnipresent, is wanted by Chelsea.
- Our Spaniard, our star player when on form, didn’t hit anywhere near his peak last season but is coming back to full fitness.
- Our Scottish manager has won Manager of the Year three times and Manager of the Month eight times. Whenever Sir Alex wobbles, his name is first on the list.
- Last season Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, and Arsenal qualified for the Champions League – all of them are interested in at least one of our players.
- Last summer, huge swathes of Evertonians predicted a top 4 finish for Everton. Our team this year, on the cusp of this season’s start is arguably better.
In an interesting variation on “You only sing when you’re winning,” it seems that the Blue Union only marches when we’re losing. Earlier today...

Aside from Baines I fail to see how any of the above can be considered optimism.
You basically said that all of our players are wanted by other clubs and that our manager is next in line for the Man U job.
Am I missing something here?
My point was that our players are wanted by successful teams, they are good players – we have a good team. The same goes for our manager. I guess you could look at it both ways, but surely having a team brimming with players that are wanted by successful teams shows we have a good XI right?
Ed, I’d stick to clicking your heels 3 times, if I were you
Our support’s morale is lower than a snake’s belly in a wheel rut in a ditch
shanks – Morale is definitely low, but we have a good team and a good manager.
